Southern Salwood is a fast-growing eastern Australian wattle with golden flower spikes and slender silvery-green phyllodes. Ideal for shelter belts, revegetation and quickly establishing native canopy.
Southern Salwood (Acacia disparrima) is a fast-growing wattle native to the coastal forests of eastern Australia, ranging from northern New South Wales through Queensland. It is a tall, slender tree reaching 10-20 metres in mature specimens, with a straight trunk, smooth grey-brown bark and a soft, open canopy of long, sickle-shaped phyllodes in silvery-green. From late winter into spring, branches are lined with cylindrical golden flower spikes that fill the canopy with soft yellow and attract native bees, butterflies and small honeyeaters. Long valued for its useful timber and rapid establishment, Southern Salwood is a quietly impressive shelter tree for larger native gardens, farm plantings and revegetation projects — a tree that earns its place through both pace and presence.
